Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are reuniting to adapt an upcoming nonfiction book for the big screen, and the news is sure to grab the interest of moviegoers and cinephiles alike.
Apple Original Films has acquired the rights to adapt the novel The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder by writer David Grann. Their declaration comes after months of preparation for the October premiere of a film adaption of Grann’s true-crime book, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Scorsese is poised to direct The Wager, and DiCaprio has been cast as the lead. In particular, DiCaprio and Scorsese have built a successful working relationship over the years, working together on multiple critically praised films.
Killers of the Flower Moon Release Date
Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered at Cannes and received rave reviews, will now have a wide global theatrical distribution on October 20 thanks to Apple Original Films. Apple and Paramount Pictures collaborated on the film’s theatrical release.
This is necessary before the film starring Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Lily Gladstone and directed by Martin Scorsese is featured on Apple TV+. The exact date is still up in the air, but it will occur during award season.
Apple had planned a limited distribution of the film on October 6, but the film’s global debut this summer has been great for Barbie and Oppenheimer. It’s possible that the film will appear at one of the fall festivals, though it’s unclear how many theaters will be showing it around the world. The plan also includes an Imax screening.
“At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight,” reads the official synopsis. “The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), “Killers of the Flower Moon” is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal.”
