In one upcoming movie, and no, it’s not Barbie, we all look like Charlie Day holding a huge board of red confusion. Killers of the Flower Moon is an upcoming film directed by Martin Scorsese.
The first film by Scorsese since 2019’s The Irishman, Killers of the Flower Moon is an adaption of David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book of the same name about the Osage murders and the founding of the FBI.
Scorsese helms the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, A Star Is Born, Dune), who has been nominated for an Oscar three times. The Hollywood Reporter claims the film’s budget is around $200 million, despite the fact that Paramount and Apple are producing it and calling it a “‘smaller scale'” feature.
Even though Apple is the film’s producer, Timothée Chalamet will have to wait until it opens in theaters before he can see it on Apple’s streaming service. See the trailer, meet the cast, and learn more about the upcoming murder-fest below!

On May 20, 2023, the film premiered at the out-of-competition section of the Cannes Film Festival. Therese Lacson of Collider gave the film a B and wrote:
“Bolstered by a strong cast and a luscious color palette and landscape, Killers of the Flower Moon is worthy of a watch for those who can look past its romanticization.”
Who is in The Killers of the Flower Moon’s Cast?
Leading roles in “Killers of the Flower Moon” are played by Robert De Niro (rancher and businessman William Hale) and Leonardo DiCaprio (Hale’s nephew Ernest Burkhart). Although they worked together on Scorsese’s meta-comedy short “The Audition” in 2015, this will be their first time participating in the same Scorsese feature film. According to reviews for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” both leads give impressive performances.
The supporting ensemble, including Lily Gladstone as Burkhart Kyle’s Osage wife Mollie Kyle, is particularly excellent. Gladstone’s performance in the 2016 independent film “Certain Women,” directed by Kelly Reichardt, made a modest splash, and now the Native American actor is earning rave reviews for her work in the upcoming film “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
Jesse Plemons plays former Texas Ranger turned Bureau of Investigation agent Tom White, who is sent to the Osage Nation to investigate the murders. After appearing in Scorsese’s previous film, “The Irishman,” Plemons will play the part that Leonardo DiCaprio was supposed to play in “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
According to IndieWire, White was originally written for DiCaprio, but the actor ultimately decided he would rather play a supporting character. This opened the door for Plemons to take on the part. Tantoo Cardinal plays Mollie’s mom Lizzie Q, John Lithgow is the prosecutor, and Brendan Fraser is William Hale’s lawyer W. S. Hamilton in the film.
In addition to Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, and Jillian Dion (who play Mollie’s sisters Anna, Reta, and Minnie, respectively), Scorsese cast numerous other indigenous actresses, as reported by Deadline in March 2021.
Is There Any Trailer For the Movie?
On July 5, the official trailer was released to remind us that there was more to American history than just Fourth of July celebrations and backyard barbecues.
Here is a second trailer also, watch it below:
Instead, we get a dark, bloody historical epic about the decimation of a people for the sake of oil, or “black gold” as they say around these parts. The clip is fast-paced and features gunfights, action scenes, and scary statements spoken by Robert De Niro to the tune of “Stadium Pow Wow” by the Halluci Nation. There’s a ton of cash, too.
Such wealth that some would kill to possess. The second official trailer for the film was published on September 13th, revealing a bit more of the plot by demonstrating DiCaprio’s character Ernest Burkhart’s complicity in the murders and the creepy nature of the “love story” at the film’s core.
De Niro intones, “We mix these families together and if that estate money flows in the right direction, it’ll come to us.” Lily Gladstone’s cute giggling and Leonardo DiCaprio’s flirtation provide the only comic relief.
