WWE confirmed Thursday that Lanny Poffo, aka The Genius and brother of “Macho Man” Randy Savage, passed away. He was 68. The World Wrestling Entertainment organisation issued a statement saying, “WWE is heartbroken to learn that Lanny Poffo, better known to sports-entertainment fans as The Genius, passed away at the age of 68.”

Lanny Poffo, the son of Angelo Poffo and the younger brother of WWE Hall of Famer “Macho Man” Randy Savage, had a look all his own. Leaping” Lanny Poffo, who debuted in WWE in 1985 alongside his brother, was an early pioneer among the company’s aerial performers.

WWE expresses its deepest sympathies to Poffo’s loved ones and fans. Among those who tweeted their sympathies to Poffo’s family was “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. Duggan tweeted, “With a very, very heavy heart, I’ve been asked to let everyone know about the demise of our friend and colleague Lanny Poffo, The Genius. Death has taken Lanny.
In a tweet, All Elite Wrestling expressed its sadness. In the wake of Lanny Poffo’s death, AEW shares the grief of the whole wrestling community. Our hearts go out to his loved ones, colleagues, and followers,” the firm said.

Poffo, whose stage name was “Leaping” Lanny Poffo, was the real-life sibling of the “Macho Man.” He entered the business in 1974, debuting with the All-South Wrestling Alliance, and rose through the ranks to the World Wrestling Federation through the territories (later known as WWE).
During his stint in WWE, he was involved in a number of feuds and even faced Hulk Hogan in a match on Saturday Night’s Main Event XXIV. Later, in 2015, Poffo showed up on WWE to induct Savage into the Hall of Fame. In 2018, he acted as Jay Lethal’s valet for the Ring of Honor title match that Lethal wrestled in.
