An Animation Based on Scott Pilgrim is on its way to Netflix

Even though Scott Pilgrim has already gone through so much, he is set to face the world once more. In Edgar Wright’s 2010 cult classic Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Michael Cera plays the gangly bass player who was first introduced in Bryan Lee O’Malley’s popular comic series.

He, Ramona Flowers, and her Seven Evil Exes will soon be available on Netflix in anime form. Scott Pilgrim is coming back to life in a new anime series from Science SARU. The series, which was created, written, and executive produced by O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, also welcomes back several of the original movie’s actors.

That means (deep, deep breath) Michael Cera as Scott, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau and of course Satya Bhabha, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, and Mae Whitman as the Evil Exes.

O’Malley says of the actors, “They’ve all done tremendous things, but to me, they’re family.” Bringing back the original ensemble was given to Wright, who also acts as an executive producer on the new series. He tells Tudum, “Fortunately, the Scott Pilgrim cast became a close-knit family and connections were established for life.

But how exactly is that journey progressing? According to Wright, over time, fans had inquired as to whether the movie will receive a sequel or some other form of continuation.

“Even though I was aware that a live-action sequel was doubtful, I would frequently submit the idea that an anime adaptation may be an interesting alternative. Then, surprise, surprise, one day Netflix contacted me to inquire about this same concept. Better yet, our amazing writer Bryan Lee O’Malley had a concept that was much more daring than simply adapting the original books.
