Actress Amanda Bynes Hospitalized After Mental Health Call in LA, Sources Say

ABC News has confirmed via a source familiar with the matter that Amanda Bynes has been put on a mental health hold. The Los Angeles Police Department reports that at about 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, authorities in Los Angeles received a medical call for a female in a Sizzler parking lot on South Vermont Avenue and West Fourth Street.

According to a law enforcement official who was briefed on the LAPD request for assistance, when police arrived, they found Bynes. The individual with knowledge of the circumstance also confirmed Bynes’ involvement with ABC News.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics who examined the “Easy A” actress gave her the all-clear medically, the law enforcement official told ABC News. She was taken to a hospital on a mental health hold, sometimes known as a 5150 hold, by a mental health team that had been contacted.

Bynes was reportedly observed early on Sunday morning “without any clothes” and flagged a car down, telling the driver that she was “coming down from a psychotic episode,” according to earlier reports from TMZ. The person with knowledge of the circumstance corroborated both that information and the fact that Bynes dialed 911.

This incident occurred over a year after the judge ended Bynes’ conservatorship. Beginning in 2013, when her mother Lynn Bynes was named as her temporary conservator, the actress had been under a conservatorship.

The conservatorship was established following the “All That” star’s hospitalization on an uninvited psychiatric hold for reportedly lighting a small fire in the driveway of a Thousand Oaks, California, residential property. Lynn Bynes was once more designated as her daughter’s conservator in October 2014.

To remove herself and her estate from conservatorship, Amanda Bynes petitioned in February 2022. According to the petition, Bynes is a student at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, where she has an associate’s degree in merchandise product development and is currently working towards a bachelor’s degree.
