The NYPD has confirmed to PEOPLE that there have been no further developments in the case. On Thursday, A 22 Year Old Man Is Killed In A Shooting Near Times Square. Shortly after 5:30 p.m., police were called to the corner of 44th Street and 8th Avenue, which is a popular tourist destination.
A spokeswoman for the New York Police Department told PEOPLE that upon arrival, officers discovered a male who had been shot in the right side of his chest. He was unable to be resuscitated at the scene, therefore he was sent to Mount Sinai West, where he was formally declared dead. No suspects have been apprehended and the investigation by the NYPD into the incident continues.

On Thursday, a bouncer at a bar in the business sector told the New York Times that he heard a single gunshot before customers started fleeing from a Shake Shack in the area. WNBC reports that the victim sprinted from the fast food outlet before falling in front of a deli. The New York Post claims that two males are involved in the shooting, which they attribute to a heroin deal gone wrong.
One eyewitness told the Post, “There were two uniform officers… in front of the turnstiles as you come out, and I shouted for them to come out.” The man claimed he heard the gunfire as he emerged from the underground. It’s no secret that Times Square is still one of the busiest intersections in all of New York City.

Although foot traffic has declined after the COVID-19 outbreak, the central business district’s website still claims that around 360,000 people pass through the region every day. On its busiest days, Times Square can see upwards of 450,000 visitors.
