When Shadow and Bone first premiered on Netflix in April it broke a lot of viewership records. And there are multiple reasons behind its sudden rise to fame. Fans tore through all 8 episodes at a supersonic speed and they did not waste any time in pressurizing Netflix to greenlit the show for a second season. The critically acclaimed show got overwhelming support from the audience hence the showrunners and Netflix renewed the show for a second season immediately. The story is already set for the second season. How? Because Shadow and Bone is based on the novel of Leigh Bardugo of the same name. Now all the sequel needs is a script. And according to some insider reports, this work has also been completed and now the team is set to achieve the next milestone; the filming process! But how credible is this news? Let’s find out!
The show revolves around an orphaned girl Alina Starkov (played by Jessie Mei Li) who unexpectedly discovers her superpowers. She then decides to use these powers to destroy the Shadow Fold which would, in turn, restore the peace in her land ‘Ravka’. The entirety of 8 episodes show her journey as a legendary Sun Summoner but this is not the only plot. Instead, several other characters are also explored and if you enjoy fantasy shows then Shadow and Bone should top your watchlist!
Showrunner Shawn Levy has confirmed that they are about to begin with the process of filming. But we hope that the pandemic won’t make this task difficult as it did for another Netflix series Bridgerton Season 2! Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release Date
The show was renewed shortly after the first season’s release. But Netflix never announced the release date for Shadow and Bone Season 2. However, if the sequel’s production continues at the same pace as the previous season then expect the 2nd installment to premiere in late 2022 or even early 2023.
As the script is done and the show is in its pre-production phase the second season should not take much time. But we can’t say anything because the pandemic has caused a lot of problems previously too so we can just hope that things go on smoothly. Cast
As the first season ended on a cliffhanger the majority of the main cast is bound to come back for Shadow and Bone season 2. And as there is no confirmed lineup for the cast yet we can just assume that the main characters will return for the sequel. Netflix shows have a trend of adding new cast members in every new installment plus Shadow and Bone has the potential of introducing new characters. But who are they? We don’t know that yet!

So expect to see Freddy Carter (as Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (as Inej Ghafa), and Kit Young (as Jesper Fahey) in Shadow and Bone Season 2. If the show will follow the events of the novel then the potential new characters are; Ravkan Prince Nikolai Lantsov, Shu warriors Tolya and Tama! However, as the first season did not follow the novel exactly we can’t say anything definite about the new characters. So, it is better to wait for the showrunners to announce!
Plot
The second season will be based on ‘Siege and Storm’ which is Bardugo’s second novel. But the timeline can also overlap with the duology of ‘Six of Crows’. Now that depends on the script-writer however they are willing to continue with the story.
A fight between Alina and Kirigan is inevitable as he manipulated her so now she will take revenge. And considering that both have extreme powers the consequence of this faceoff will have a major impact on the story of the entire season. Alina will try her best to boost her powers so that she can get rid of the Shadow Fold but at the same time Mal and her will also hide from the Darkling.
But as said earlier it all depends on the showrunners how they continue with the timeline. And we have full faith in them!
