Elgin is a creative leader who, on his great Mayans M.C., performed the practically impossible feat of being in three places at once as director, showrunner, and writer, according to a statement from Karey Burke, president of 20th Television.
“Another reason we enjoy doing business with him is that he is a fervent supporter of new voices and young storytellers, both in front of and behind the camera. He can do almost anything, and we are happy to have him at 20th.” James sent thanks to “every single Mayan family member” in a statement.
James declared, “20th is my home.” “I can’t wait to see what we can produce in the future as a team. And each and every one of the Mayan family members—from the top of the call sheet to the set PAs and everyone in between—has given their all to make Mayans something special on the set and in the film.”

Mayans M.C., a Sons of Anarchy spinoff, centers on Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, a recently patched member of the Mayans M.C. charter near the California/Mexico border. EZ and his brother Angel are closer than ever after learning the truth about their mother’s murder. EZ was once a golden lad with the American Dream in his grasp.
EZ’s urge for vengeance pushes him toward a life he never anticipated as he struggles to establish a new identity for himself in his little community. While this is going on, their father Felipe struggles to accept the decisions he and his sons have made.
Among the actors who appear in the show are JD Pardo, Clayton Cardenas, Edward James Olmos, Danny Pino, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, and Vincent Vargas. It first appeared in September of last year.
The series’ Season 4 concluded with some significant changes, with EZ (Pardo) gaining charge of the MC and Bishop (Irby) by his side as a full-fledged battle with SAMCRO was just around the corner, setting the stage for an explosive Mayans M.C. Season 5. Yes, as James had previously stated, “We knew we wanted to go there.”
“We definitely stepped up the pace a little bit in Season 4. When Kurt [Sutter] and I were developing these characters, we discussed how EZ had this plan and was going to Stanford, but that it was never going to materialize. It was inevitable that the universe would vomit him out where he belonged, in the past.
He was unsure about his position for three seasons, but he is now fully committed. He’s making the wrong choices, but he’s handling it the same way he did when he was a child and saved his dog—doing what no one else could. He is doing it right now with the club where Bishop and Angel’s egos are getting in the way. Furthermore, I don’t mean ego negatively.”
