House of the Dragon Season 2 Trailer and Release Date

House of the Dragon’s first season far surpassed its initial goals. Fans of “Game of Thrones” were first suspicious of the HBO prequel, and that’s fair. The dramatization of the Targaryen Civil War, however, was widely regarded as one of the finest television programs of 2022.

Now, we’d do anything to return to Westeros and renew old grudges with our blood relatives. Even if we won’t get to see the dragons again until Season 2 premieres in 2024, at least we have a better idea of when to anticipate them.

There are many things we want to know as we wait. When can we expect to see Season 2 of House of the Dragon? Who will be in it? Time frame, please. Read on for the detailed responses to your inquiries.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Release Date

While the actual House Of The Dragon season 2 release date hasn’t been established, we do know, HBO is planning to premiere the next season in summer 2024, now that production has ended on the series, according to Variety.

Casting will begin in July 2020, and principal filming will begin in April 2021 in the United Kingdom, thus the schedule is quite similar to the one used for the previous season, which was commissioned in October 2019. On August 21, 2022, the first episode of the series aired.

How Many Episodes Will House of the Dragon Season 2 Be

It appears like House of the Dragons’s latter seasons will follow in the footsteps of Game of Thrones. Okay, at least in terms of quantity. Maybe not in terms of quality, either.

Deadline reported in March 2023 that there will be eight episodes in Season 2, down two from Season 1’s ten episodes, and on November 2, 2023, HBO CEO Casey Bloys confirmed the episode count. HBO representatives maintain that the decision to reduce the season was story-driven, despite the fact that some may reasonably point to HBO’s parent company Warner Bros.

Discovery continuing to slash expenses as a possible explanation. The bright side is that if Season 2 is cut short for plot reasons, it increases the likelihood of a Season 3 renewal and increases the possibility that the show may need four seasons to go through the source material.

The Cast of House of the Dragon Season 2

Season 2 will likely slow pace as the focus shifts to the Dance of the Dragons, also known as the Targaryen civil war, after multiple time leaps that caused characters to outlive their actors.

A large cast of characters will be presented to us as well. Variety announced on April 24 that Gayle Rankin would play Alys Rivers in Season 2 of House of the Dragon.

In Fire & Blood, Alys is established as a major leader among the Greens and given the title “Witch Queen of Harrenhal” by George R. R. Martin. The great-uncle of Matthew Needham’s Lord Larys Strong, Ser Simon Strong, will be played by Simon Russell Beale.

Ser Gwayne Hightower, sister of Queen Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) and nephew of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), will be played by Freddie Fox. He is, in fact, the uncle of Tom Glynn-Carney’s King Aegon, Phia Saban’s Queen Helaena, and Ewan Mitchell’s Prince Aemond.

Abubakar Salim, who will portray Alyn of Hull, is also joining the cast. From what we can gather, Alyn is “a sailor in the Velaryon fleet who served in the Stepstones campaign,” as reported by Variety.

And here are some of the regulars who will be returning to House of the Dragon.

  • Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen
  • Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen
  • Olivia Cooke as Queen Alicent Hightower
  • Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower
  • Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen
  • Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon
  • Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole
  • Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria
  • Graham McTavish as Ser Harrold Westerling
  • Matthew Needham as Larys Strong
