House of the Dragon Season 2 Release Date
Season 2 of House of the Dragon has not yet been given a specific premiere date, but we do know the year in which viewers can expect to see it. Fans of the Greens and the Blacks who can’t wait to find out what happens next will have to wait until at least 2024.
According to HBO and Max’s chief content officer, the delay in Season 2’s release from 2023 to 2024 is due to the numerous “unknowns” involved in its production. Bloys’ response tells us that the show’s pre-production hasn’t yet begun, even if we don’t know when 2024 the next season may come out.
Given that the second season of House of the Dragon will have a significantly expanded setting, the production period will inevitably be lengthy. The premiere date is currently unknown, but we do know that there will be eight episodes in Season 2.
When Will Season 2 Begin Filming?
As of April 11, HBO confirmed that filming has begun on the series. The show’s official account tweeted, “It’s time to return to King’s Landing,” alongside a snap of the Iron Throne from behind the scenes.

In May 2023, as the Hollywood writers’ strike began, Martin addressed fan worries about how the strike would affect the production timeline for House of the Dragon. He updated his blog with the following information: “Across the ocean, the second season of House of the Dragon started filming April 11 and will continue in London and Wales. The scripts for the eight s2 episodes were all finished months ago, long before the strike began. Every episode has gone through four or five drafts and numerous rounds of revisions, to address HBO notes, my notes, budget concerns, etc. There will be no further revisions. The writers have done their jobs; the rest is in the hands of the directors, cast and crew… and of course the dragons.”
Who is the Cast for House of the Dragon Season 2?
The first season saw a large number of cast replacements. The show employed flashbacks ingeniously, so viewers could see things from both perspectives. Now that everything has been set up, the narrator may relax a bit.
If their character is still alive, all the performers from the second half of the first season should return for House of the Dragon 2.

- Abubakar Salim will portray the seafaring hero Alyn of Hull in the Velaryon series.
- Simon Russell Beale will portray Ser Simon Fort, Larys’ great-uncle (but yeah, you know, the foot fetishist).
Daeron Targaryen, the fourth son of Viserys and Alicent, is only one of several new characters that should join the cast of the hit HBO series. Even if we didn’t see him in the first season, there’s a strong possibility he’ll show up in the next one.
Cregan Stark, the head of House Stark, and Jeyne Arryn, the head of House Arryn, are only two examples of the numerous noble families of Westeros that will likely make appearances.
