The gang was first established in the fourth episode of Season 1 of “Titans,” the gritty and gloomy adaptation of the well-known young team of heroes and former sidekicks in the DC Universe who wanted to break out on their own to defend the defenseless. This is where DC’s “Doom Patrol” got its start.
The revelation that each team member’s special abilities weren’t just acquired by accident, as The Chief/Doctor Niles Caulder (Timothy Dalton) planned everything to happen to each member of the team, was one of the many revelations that fans witnessed throughout Seasons 1 and 2.
Each member of the team battled with their own demons and past trauma that contributed to the special abilities that they now possess. In order to save one of their own in Season 2, everyone had to reunite with The Chief.
