Megan Thee Stallion, whose actual name is Megan Pete, said online that she needed surgery after being shot in the foot at Kylie Jenner’s pool party on July 12, 2020. During an Instagram Live broadcast on August 20, 2020, she named shooter Tory Lanez. Megan received death threats and accusations of lying about the incident after the Live.
“Lol what I have learned abt majority of the people on social media is y’all like to hear bad news before good news, a lie spreads quicker than the truth, and y’all really be believing the shit YALL make up … I got hit at the back of my feet because when I got shot I was WALKING AWAY FACING THE BACK,” she wrote. “Why would I lie abt getting shot?”
Later, Daystar Peterson (aka Lanez) was detained for having a concealed firearm in a motor vehicle. He entered a not-guilty plea. Lanez was given a 10-year prison term for the shooting three years after it happened.

Megan Thee Stallion Says Lanez Shot Her in the Foot
Megan said on Instagram Live that she and Lanez, his bodyguard, and her friend got into an argument while riding in his car on July 12, 2020. Megan, who had been sitting up front, got out of the vehicle. She claimed that Lanez fired at her through the open rear window of the vehicle.
Megan said the claims that she punched Lanez were completely false. She also denied that Lanez’s rumored crush on Kylie Jenner had anything to do with the shooting. Megan reportedly told police she injured her foot by stepping on glass.
While the news release from Los Angeles prosecutors detailing the accusations against Lanez was light on specifics, it seemed to corroborate Megan’s account.
“The defendant and the 24-year-old victim got into an argument while riding in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills,” the prosecutors’ statement said. “The victim exited the vehicle and Peterson is accused of shooting several times at her feet and wounding her.”
The criminal complaint identified the person Lanez allegedly “inflicted great bodily injury upon” as “MEGAN P.” The complaint said Megan P. was “not an accomplice to the above offense.”
On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, Ryan Stogner, an LAPD detective, testified in court to corroborate certain aspects of Megan’s original police report. According to TMZ’s report, the detective was told that Megan was injured so badly that she “fell to the ground and then crawled” to safety after hearing Lanez yell “Dance, bitch, dance” as he fired the gunshots at her feet.
Megan reported that an inebriated Lanez had offered her money “to keep her mouth shut because he was on probation.” Stogner also claimed under oath that she initially lied about the shooting, claiming instead that she had walked on glass, out of fear that the situation would escalate violently if police were called on Lanez, a Black man who was armed in his car.
A recording of Lanez’s jail phone call to the woman who was present during the altercation and to whom he later apologized for his drunken behavior was played for the judge during the hearing. “How are you going to tell me for what I should feel remorse?” Allegedly, Lanez yelled at the judge.
Why Did Tory Lanez Shoot Megan?
After an argument at Kylie Jenner’s house, Megan Thee Stallion said on Tuesday that the event took place. The former said that she and Lanez had a falling out because she wanted to leave the party and he did not. Megan said that as they got into their luxury SUV, Lanez instructed her to “stop lying to your friend,” Kelsey Harris. Lanez “had an attitude,” she said. Harris is a former friend and assistant of Megan Thee Stallion.
Megan was apparently pressured by Tory Lanez to reveal their relationship to Kelsey Harris, but she declined. Megan claimed that she didn’t want to hang out with Harris and Lanez since she knew that Harris had a “crush” on Lanez. Megan testified about Harris, saying:
“I didn’t want her to know that I had dealt with him in any kind of way. So he knew I didn’t want her to know that. I didn’t want anybody to know…”

According to reports, the argument escalated into the two people criticizing and insulting each other about their respective occupations. To elaborate, Megan Thee Stallion said:
“Tory was basically telling me I wasn’t s**t, and I said, ‘actually you ain’t s**t. This is where you at in your career. This is where you at with your music.’ And I feel like that really rubbed him in the wrong way. He kept yelling and cursing.”
After Megan Thee Stallion started to leave the car, Tory Lanez allegedly opened fire, ultimately landing five rounds in her foot. In addition, he kept shouting, “dance, b***h.”

Tory Lanez Could Be Deported to Canada After Sentencing
In December, a court found Lanez guilty on three counts: assault with a semiautomatic firearm; possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle; and negligent discharge of a firearm.
Instead of 13 years in prison, his defense team argued for probation and substance abuse therapy.
After his conviction, 31-year-old Lanez was detained and may be deported back to Canada.
Lawyers argued over aggravating circumstances during Monday’s sentencing hearing, which did not wrap up until Tuesday.
Megan said she will “never be the same” after the incident in a victim impact statement she read to the court during sentence.
“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” the statement said.
“Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
