Jo Mersa Marley Cause of Death: What Happened to Him?

The circumstances behind Jo Mersa Marley’s demise have been made public. Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, the grandson of reggae artist Bob Marley and the son of musician Stephen Marley, passed away on December 26 at 31 after being discovered unconscious in a car.

Marley passed away from an “acute asthma exacerbation” after contracting a rhinovirus or enterovirus, according to records obtained by Rolling Stone from the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday. According to the magazine, Marley had a history of asthma, bronchitis, and pneumonia and was not taking his asthma medicine at the time of his death.

The report also mentioned that he smoked previously, had “enlarged glottic tonsils”, and had black lung discolouration. South Florida Caribbean radio station WZPP said the musician had posted on Instagram just before he passed away that he had had an asthma attack. THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, naloxone, and 0.08% of ethanol were all detected in a toxicology study, according to Rolling Stone.

According to the medical examiner’s report, viral illnesses frequently cause severe asthma exacerbations, regarded as non-allergic events. Furthermore, a person with asthma should avoid smoking combustible substances like cigarettes or marijuana regularly. The day before he passed away, on Christmas Day, Marley had called his mother and “informed her he was feeling ill, ostensibly due to his asthma,” according to Rolling Stone.

Although there was no visible damage, his lung displayed indicators of obstruction, hyper expansion, and more mucus in the airwaves. Before relocating to Miami, Marley spent his formative years in Jamaica. He then followed in the musical footsteps of his father and grandfather. He was well-known for songs including “Rock and Swing,” “Made It,” and “Burn It Down.”

Marley discussed the burden of having a well-known surname in a 2014 article for the Jamaica Observer, and he acknowledged that it was not easy. He said, “My father has left a legacy by purposefully releasing music. It’s a standard I have to meet. However, he offered a contrasting perspective on his renowned family in a different interview with the entertainment website The Pier that same year.

“There are challenges you must face and tasks you must complete; that is how things are. We must navigate life, you know? I’m not under any pressure,” he remarked. “I am grateful to be a Marley. I am appreciative and thankful that I was placed where I am today according to God’s will for my birthplace. It makes me proud and grateful.
