Who was Clint Eastwood?
Despite coming from a middle-class background, Clint Eastwood has achieved enormous success in Hollywood as an actor, director, and producer. This accomplished performer came from poor beginnings, which is hard to believe.
Before he tried his hand at acting, he struggled with a number of odd jobs. After finding success in the Western TV series Rawhide, he shot to stardom in Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy (1960–1966, A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) and Dirty Harry (1970–1988).
His reputation as a rough-and-tumble hero was cemented in the Dirty Harry books and the Dollars Trilogy. Clint first tried his hand at film directing in 1971, and his distinctive style quickly became known.
For his work in Unforgiven (1992) and Million Dollar Baby (2004), which both garnered Best Picture and Best Director Oscars, respectively, Eastwood was nominated for Best Actor. In 2006, for Letters from Iwo Jima, he was nominated for an Academy Award.
His most financially successful films, after inflation, were 1978’s Every Which Way But Loose and 1980’s Any Which Way You Can. While he has starred in the majority of his self-directed films, he has also made other films in which he did not appear.
