Franco Harris, a Pittsburgh Steelers legend, passed away at 72 from reasons unrelated to his health. According to Fox News, hours before his death on Tuesday, Franco Harris gave a radio interview. Harris spoke on the radio show of Chris “Mad dog” Russo, where he reported feeling “great.”
He played for the Steelers from 1972 through 1983. He passed away a few days before the 50th anniversary of the iconic play “Immaculate Reception,” which will be honored as the NFL’s top moment in 2019 as part of the league’s centennial commemoration, “NFL 100.”
This Sunday at Acrisure Stadium would have marked the 50th anniversary of Harris’s catch against the Oakland Raiders in the AFC divisional playoffs during his rookie season of 1972.

Franco Harris Cause Of Death
The death of Franco Harris, 72, occurred unexpectedly on Tuesday night. His untimely passing caught everyone by surprise, and no cause of death was ever revealed. Recent days had seen him busy with interviews and events leading up to today’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.
What little information we have comes from Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin, who was in Pittsburgh on Friday night for NFL Network’s game coverage. After speaking with Harris’s family, he went on 93.7 The Fan to talk about it. His wife will tell you that he was saying everyone yes because he had so much on his plate.
On the contrary, “he was giving everybody a Yeah because that’s the type of person he is; he wants to try to help everybody out,” he explained to host Andrew Fillipponi(Twitter). When he got home, he sat down, stated he was tired, and by the time she finished brushing her teeth and came back, he had already crossed over into the next world.

Irvin kept saying that Harris was tired again and again. Of course, he had been doing a lot of rushing around in the days and weeks leading up to the weekend’s festivities, and that had to take a toll on his energy levels, but maybe it wouldn’t kill him.
When Fillipponi questioned if Irvin had contacted Harris’ family, Irvin stated that he did, saying, “You hear how things transpired.” Even Hall of Famers is privy to such details when one of their own is experiencing difficulties. If you asked him how he was feeling health-wise, he’d say, “Yeah, he was doing good.” Everybody seemed to be in good spirits. And that’s the real shocker.

Harris was the subject of multiple interviews leading up to his untimely death. On Cameron Heyward’s Zoom podcast, some listeners noticed that he sniffled occasionally. The same could be stated that he gave off the impression of being exhausted. But it doesn’t seem out of the norm for a 72-year-old man to be so active.
