Dillon Gabriel College Career
In 2019, Gabriel began his UCF career as the backup quarterback behind Brandon Wimbush. He took over in the team’s first game and started the next 12 games as the Knights finished with a 10-3 record, which was capped with a 48-25 victory over Marshall at the Gasparilla Bowl.
Throughout the season, he completed 236 of 398 ball attempts for 3,653 yards, 29 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Gabriel completed 21 of 45 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns in a 49–23 loss, his second consecutive year of leading the Knights to a 6–4 record and a trip to the Boca Raton Bowl.
On September 17, 2021, during a regular-season game against Louisville, Gabriel was injured during the final play of the game, a multi-lateral play that the Knights attempted to score a miraculous touchdown.
Gabriel was hauled off the field after the game and had X-rays taken of his shoulder. A fractured left collarbone ultimately ended his season, albeit surgery was not required.
On November 27, 2021, Gabriel announced on social media that he was leaving UCF. Gabriel announced on December 4, 2023, that he was leaving Oklahoma and would again use the transfer portal following two seasons of play with the Sooners.
On December 16, 2021, Gabriel first announced that he would transfer to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). But less than three weeks later, Gabriel announced that he would be moving to the University of Oklahoma on January 3, 2022.
