Cities Skylines 2 Trailer

In honor of the 8th anniversary of the first Cities: Skylines, the announcement trailer for the sequel was published. The movie trailer depicts a metropolis in fast expansion, from the underlying infrastructure to the surface streets and structures. Changes in the environment and the passage of time contribute to its evolution. At the end of the story, the city has developed into a fully functional metropolis.

Cities: Skylines 2 is more of a simulation game than an action game, thus there isn’t really any overt plot, but there are systemic and player-specific stories that emerge as players create and develop their own cities.

At the Xbox Games showcase, a brief preorder promo featuring solely in-game footage was displayed. The trailer’s primary goal is to demonstrate how much control you, the player, have over the game’s environment.

The makers have been releasing a series of films that aren’t quite trailers, but they do outline the game’s new and returning features and explain how they’ll function in the sequel. The final installment of these is scheduled for release on September 11. Check out the ones that are dedicated to:

  • Road Tools
  • Traffic AI
  • Public and Cargo transportation
  • Zones and signature buildings
  • City Services
  • Electricity and Water

Even though they aren’t available just yet, we now know that seven others will feature:

  • Maps and themes
  • Climate and seasons
  • Economy and production
  • Citizen Simulation and Lifepath
  • Game progression
  • Sound and Music
  • Cinematic camera and photo mode
