After Davis declared for the 2012 NBA Draft, the New Orleans Hornets picked him with the first pick. Later, they played their first game against the San Antonio Spurs, but they lost. When he came back from getting a concussion, he beat the Charlotte Bobcats and got his first double-double.
In March 2013, Davis grabbed 18 boards, which was the most in his career. A month later, he hurt his knee and had to end his season. The following season, the New Orleans Hornets changed their name to the Pelicans. Davis started the new season with two double-doubles.

Davis was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2019 summer. In his first game against the Clippers in October, he finished with 25 points, ten rebounds, and 5 assists. In less than seven days, he became the first Laker to score forty points and grab twenty rebounds, a feat last done by Shaquille O’Neal in 2003.
In January 2020, Davis was given a four-year contract extension by the Lakers; however, he declined and became a free agency. The Lakers advanced to the NBA Finals following their conference finals victory thanks to his continuous performances, which also helped them secure the top Western Conference playoff spot.
The Lakers won their 17th championship with Davis’s help as they defeated the Miami Heat. LeBron James also had an assist. By 2020’s end, Davis had re-inked a five-year deal with the Lakers. The issues with his right heel and calf, though, kept him out for the majority of the season. Davis was unable to play in 2021 and 2022 due to more injuries.
