The Diplomat is the newest must-watch Netflix streaming program, and it is a taut political thriller. Keri Russell, who was previously in the high-profile spy drama The Americans, plays Kate Wyler, a recently appointed American ambassador to the United Kingdom who is tasked with preventing a global disaster while covertly preparing for the vice presidency at home.
Furthermore, the presence of Kate’s estranged husband Hal, played by Rufus Sewell, a career politician who is unaccustomed to seeing his wife assume the ambassadorial spotlight, and the expectations placed on a female public figure to “look the part,” further complicate the situation.
