There is more than enough shocking content in the upcoming season of The Crown on Netflix to make it the most shocking instalment to date. For the royal family, the 1990s were a particularly dismal decade, highlighted by the Queen’s annus horribilis in 1992, when three of her children’s marriages fell apart, Windsor Castle was severely damaged by fire, and the Duchess of York was embroiled in a toe-sucking scandal that made tabloid headlines around the world.
The royals return, this time older and with a new cast, as the acclaimed drama draws closer to the present day. The Crown is gearing up to introduce some of the most memorable (and horrifying) events in the royal family’s recent history, so get ready for a heavy dose of royal politics and scandal. Is There Any Controversy Around Season 5 Of The Crown?
According to The Telegraph, the palace is worried that the show will capitalize on one of the tensest times in royal history in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Dame Judi Dench has added her voice to the debate by writing an open letter to The Times in which she requests that the streaming service Netflix include a disclaimer at the beginning of each episode informing viewers that the show is fictionalized.
While many will recognize The Crown for the brilliant but fictionalised account of events that it is, I fear that a significant number of viewers, particularly overseas, may take its version of history as being wholly true,” she says of the streaming service. The season centres on the end of Prince Charles’s and Princess Diana’s marriage and heralds a new era in which the royal family is an established part of tabloid culture.
Although the family wasn’t exactly in the spotlight at the time, creator Peter Morgan assured Variety that the show would be respectful of its subjects. There’s no denying that the 1990s were a rough decade for the royal family, and I do not doubt that King Charles has some painful memories from that time. However, this does not guarantee that history will judge him or the monarchy harshly in retrospect.

Certainly not in the way the show is presented. Season 5 will cover the relationship problems and the subsequent controversy, but season 6 will cover the death of Princess Diana, which was the most trying time for the Royal Family’s public image. However, doubts about whether it’s fair to bring up such a turbulent period were raised after the passing of Queen Elizabeth, right before filming began for the next season.
Playing Diana, Elizabeth Debicki says they tried to be accurate to the real person. Like actors, Peter and the rest of the team on this job try their hardest to treat every situation with the same degree of nuance, honesty, and complexity that the material demands. My initial encounter with Peter gave me the impression that I had reached a place where such matters were regarded seriously and cared about passionately.

Dominic West, who plays Charles, echoes this sentiment, saying that no one flinched when filming emotionally charged moments. “It’s a terrible season because of all the horrible things that happen, like telling your sons that Diana died. Having two sons at that age makes this a more weighty responsibility that I believe we all take seriously.

The breakup of Charles and Diana’s marriage and the subsequent tabloid frenzy make this season one of the most turbulent in royal history. The trailer starts with newscasters screaming things like “the royal family is in danger” and “have royal scandals ruined the country’s reputation?
While our new Queen Elizabeth, Imelda Staunton, stands in the charred remnants of Windsor Castle. The long-awaited portrayal of Diana by Elizabeth Debicki finally makes its debut, and we also get our first look at Johnny Lee Miller as John Major, who urges the family to present a united front despite the breakdowns.
As we switch between scenes of Charles’ romance with Camila Parker Bowles, Staunton says to West, “I don’t think it’s my behaviour jeopardizing [the monarchy’s] survival” (Olivia Williams). With a cover of The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony” serving as a climax, the trailer builds to what appears to be Diana’s dramatic and contentious interview with Martin Bashir, in which she lays bare the pain and personal difficulties she has experienced as a member of the royal family.

Is There Any Update On The Release Date For Season 5 Of The Crown?
Because of the untimely passing of Queen Elizabeth II, there was talk of Netflix delaying the premiere of The Crown, which had been scheduled for November. Do We Have Any Season 5 Promotional Photos Yet?
Netflix has released official stills of our soon-to-be royals while having kept photos of the cast in their royal counterparts pretty under wraps (apart from a few on-set images). Elizabeth Debicki, who plays Princess Diana, will presumably be the show’s primary focus. Images of her in a blue outfit with crystal embellishments show her on a boat with King Charles II (Dominic West) and Princes William and Harry.
While we’ve seen several photographs of Debicki in the part of the late princess, this is the first time we’ve seen Imelda Staunton, who replaced Olivia Colman in the role of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
