Julia Roberts On Martin Luther King Jr

Yesterday, actress Julia Roberts celebrated her 55th birthday, and a video from an event that took place a month ago has now surfaced on Twitter. In the video, the actress discusses an unexpected pair involved in her birth.

The pair in question was Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, who became a prominent figure in the civil rights movement. Roberts was born in 1967, the same year that Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California, the Vietnam War was still going on, the 25th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a speech condemning the Vietnam war, and race riots were occurring all over the country.

The age in which Roberts was born was critical for advancing civil rights, and it was tumultuous in the history of the United States. The question that Gayle King asked the actress caught her off guard, and she responded by saying that “her research is outstanding.”

During her presentation for HistoryTalks, she explained the circumstances surrounding the Kings’ assistance to her family. Dr Martin Luther King Jr. covered the medical expenses associated with Julia Roberts’ delivery, as her parents could not do so due to financial constraints.

Roberts informed Gayle King that her parents had a friendly relationship with Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta when they lived in Atlanta and operated a drama school in the 1960s.

After King’s children started attending the theatre school, Roberts’ parents received financial assistance from King’s family as payment for their tuition, according to Roberts. It has been stated that members of the Ku Klux Klan blew up a car outside of one of the plays because Yolanda King was cast in a role in which she was required to kiss a white actor.
