When Did Britney and Justin Break Up?

After dating since 1999, Britney and Justin called it quits in March of 2002. With the release of Oops!, Britney had become the most popular female artist in the world. 2000’s I Did It Again album. After leaving boy band NSYNC in 2002, the same year he and Britney broke up, Justin released his debut solo album.

There was speculation that Britney had an affair with her choreographer, however, neither she nor Justin have ever confirmed or denied this.

After breaking up with Britney, Justin produced the music video for “Cry Me A River,” in which he exacts retribution on an unfaithful lady who looks exactly like Britney.

Diane Sawyer of ABC wanted to know if Britney cheated on Justin during their interview. “You broke his heart, you did something that caused him so much pain, so much suffering. What did you do?” Sawyer asked Spears. Britney answered: “I think everyone has a side of their story to make them feel a certain way…and I’m not technically saying he’s wrong but I’m not technically saying he’s right either.”

Britney explained to The Sun that she and Justin broke up because they were headed in opposite paths in a subsequent interview.

“I’m still hurting but I am trying to see it as an experience”, Britney said. “The worst thing is everyone wants to talk to me about it. Everywhere I go people are asking how I am. It’s a strange feeling getting used to being single again but I suppose I’ll have to cope. I’m just starting to get the knack of it because ever since I was 15 I’ve been in a serious relationship.”

Neither Britney nor Justin has ever said whether or not an affair was the cause of their breakup. Everyone in the business wanted to know why Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears broke up after the release of the Cry Me A River music video, but the two stars consistently sidestepped the topic in interviews.

“I remember when we decided we were going to go our separate ways, we sat down and I said to her, ‘If there’s ever a moment where you ever need me, you can rest assured that I will be there, because I love you as a person and I will always love you.’ But I also said, ‘Look, no matter what we say at this point people are going to speculate things, and I could really get myself in horrible position if I was to say something and somebody misinterpreted, because that happens all the time.’ And I promised her that I wouldn’t say specifically why we broke up.”

People are furious with Justin Timberlake after the release of Framing Britney Spears because they believe he made money off of his and Britney’s separation by fabricating an unfaithful story in the Cry Me A River video.

Fans are so upset that they are demanding an apology from Justin. Some people think that the constant scrutiny from the media led to Britney’s breakdown and the subsequent conservatorship.
