The Plot of The Starling

The official synopsis and trailer have revealed the potential storyline of the upcoming movie. The synopsis says-

“After Lilly (Melissa McCarthy) suffers a loss, a battle with a territorial bird (The Starling) over the dominion of her garden provides an unlikely avenue for her grief and the courage to heal her relationships and rediscover her capacity. For love.”

Speaking of the trailer, it has unveiled tons of information about the upcoming film. Let’s break it down together.

In the opening scene, Lily and Jack are lying in the chair in their house garden. They are celebrating their unborn baby and enjoying the firework together in a romantic way. They seem happy and eagerly waiting for their unborn child. Next, we saw Lily driving her car to the mental hospital to meet Jack. What happened to Jack?

Unfortunately, they have lost their infant daughter, following which they both are suffering deep mental trauma. But, Jack could not bear the trauma, so he went to a Mental hospital to recover. Lily is trying to be strong. However, she is deeply hurt as well. But putting her grief aside, she is taking care of her expensive ancestral home, working at the grocery store, and taking care of her husband.

While fulfilling all her responsibilities, she started aggressively having a tussle with a bird (The Starling) in the garden. Isn’t it strange? Yes, but not for the person with such a mental condition.

Observing Lily’s grief, a counselor at Jack’s clinic advised her to see a local therapist, Larry (Kevin Kline), for her mental condition.

What Does Will Happen With Larry?

Larry was Mental health professional who left the practice ten years back to be a vet. Considering the situation of Lily, he decides to help her. He starts advising her to recover from the grief. Larry makes her understand the root cause of her grievance.

He tells her to ignite the love again between her and her husband, Jack. He further tells her that their dead child is not the problem, but her relationship with her husband is the root cause of their mental condition. Larry inspired her for introspection.

It will be soothing to see how Lily follows the path shown to her and managed to forget her grief and work on her married life.
