It went on to say, “Suzanne was surrounded by her close family, including her husband Alan and son Bruce. On October 16th, her 77th birthday, her loved ones gathered to honor her. Instead, they want to honor her exceptional life and express gratitude to her countless devoted admirers.
Hay said Somers will be buried in a small, family-only service this week. A larger memorial service is planned for later in November.
The “Step By Step” star shared the devastating news that her breast cancer has returned on July 31. The late Somers was looking forward to a grand 77th birthday bash even as she fought breast cancer. She had just finished telling People Magazine about her wedding preparations when she passed away.

“I heard Caroline is preparing her renowned short rib tacos and I have requested for excessive amounts of cake. I absolutely adore cake,” she told the newspaper. Hamel, who joined the conversation, spoke highly of his wife’s resilience and provided an update on how she was doing with her illness and medication.
“Suzanne and I just returned home from the Midwest where Suzanne had six weeks of intensive physical therapy,” the doting husband revealed. “Even after our five decades together, I still marvel at Suzanne’s amazing determination and commitment.”
