Rick James Cause of Death: Who was Rick James’ Wife?

American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer James Ambrose Johnson Jr., better known by his stage name Rick James. James began his musical career in his adolescent years, having been born on February 1, 1948, and reared in Buffalo, New York.

He avoided military service by enlisting in the US Navy Reserve, but not before playing in a number of bands.

He first entered the public consciousness with the publication of his album Glow in 1985 and later with his participation in the groundbreaking TV series The A-Team. The success he had with his first few albums was not repeated with his following ones.

Who was Rick James’ Wife

Hits like “Fire and Desire,” “Give It to Me Baby,” and “Super Freak” by Rick James made him a household name in the 1970s and 1980s. Despite his natural ability, Rick’s substance misuse damaged virtually every one of his friendships and partnerships.

Kelly Misener was Rick’s first wife. The pair tied the knot in 1974, but they divorced barely five years later in 1979. Even though Kelly and Rick’s marriage didn’t endure, she spoke highly of him.

She elaborated, “Rick had an uncanny knack of endearing himself to people,” as reported by Citizen Freak. “For all his flaws, he was one of the most fascinating people I’ve ever met, and he was quite a charming guy.”

Tanya Hijazi was Rick’s second wife. Tanya was just 17 when she first met Rick in 1989, but by the following year, the two were engaged. Tanya was Rick’s genuine soul mate and best friend, and she shared his penchant for drugs and crazy parties.

Who are Rick James’ kids?

Four children have been born to Rick James so far. Rick’s first two kids, singer-songwriter daughter Tyenza and son Rick James Jr., were with Syville Morgan. The mother of his second son, Trey Hardesty James, remains unknown. Rick welcomed his youngest kid, a boy called Tazman, with his wife Tanya in 1993.

Both Rick James Jr. and Trey have kept a low profile, but neither Rick’s daughter Ty nor his youngest son Tazman have shied away from the spotlight. Rick passed away in 2004, and his daughter Ty has since taken over the administration of his estate. Ty has done a lot of things to carry on her father’s work.

Ty has hailed Rick as both a caring and protective father despite her earlier remarks about how hard it was to grow up with a father who struggled with addiction. Ty claims that Rick was the one who originally exposed her to music, but that he warned her against a future in the industry due to the many potential pitfalls and distractions she would face.

Tazman, Rick’s youngest son, however, is taking after his famous dad. The young man is an up-and-coming rapper, writer, and producer. With self-descriptions like “the new Rick James,” it’s evident that Taz has music industry aspirations. If he does, then, time will tell.
