Felipe Colares Cause of Death Dead at 29 Hit by a Bus

Felipe Colares, a former UFC fighter, passed away on Monday at the age of 29. Colares was struck by a bus in Rio de Janeiro on Monday morning as he was returning from a training session, according to Colares’ coach Rodrigo Babi, who spoke with Combate. According to the report, he was attended to by first responders who arrived on the scene and passed away while being taken to a nearby hospital.

Later, the claim was corroborated by MMA Fighting, and Colares’ passing was confirmed by the French company Ares Fighting Championship on Monday afternoon. Alioune Nahaye was submitted by Colares using a rear naked choke at Ares FC 12 in Paris on February 17.

Colares competed in the UFC six times between February 2019 and May 2021 before joining Ares. With victories over Luke Sanders at UFC on ESPN 23 and Domingo Pilarte at UFC on ESPN 4 in 2019, he amassed a 2-4 UFC record.

After consecutive UFC defeats to Chris Gutierrez and Chase Hooper in 2021 and 2022, he joined Ares. Colares began his professional career in 2013 with North Extreme Cagefighting and amassed an overall record of 11-4. Before joining the UFC in 2017, he defeated Caio Gregorio to claim the Jungle Fight featherweight title.

In January, Colares gained notoriety after stopping an alleged robbery in Rio. His use of jiu-jitsu to control and arrest a man who reportedly snatched a phone from a woman on the street was documented in photographs uploaded on social media at the time.
