What Happened to Eliza Fletcher?
The body of a kindergarten teacher from Tennessee who had been taken while out on a run in the morning was discovered earlier this month.
Eliza Fletcher, 34, died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head, as well as jaw fractures and blunt force injuries to her right leg, according to the West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center in Memphis, as reported by the Associated Press.
Fletcher, a mother of two, was kidnapped from a jog in Memphis on September 2 and thrown into the back of an SUV in the pitch black.
According to the Memphis Police Department, Cleotha Abston Henderson, 38, was arrested two days after Fletcher went missing after her DNA was allegedly found on a pair of shoes at the location. Henderson is charged with exceptionally aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Abston Henderson washing the SUV he is accused of using to abduct Fletcher for almost an hour after the incident. His brother Mario reportedly informed authorities that he was “washing his clothes in the sink of the house” and “acting very strange.”
The next day, Fletcher’s body was discovered seven miles from the location where other security footage suggested she had been abducted. The police department declared that the accusations against Abston Henderson had been increased to those of first-degree murder and first-degree murder while perpetrating an abduction.
