When it comes to DC Extended Universe there is no group like the Suicide Squad! The first movie which came out in 2016, did not receive good reviews from critics but it did fairly well on the box office. At that time, the film’s sequel “Suicide Squad 2” was also teased but the hype died over time. However, it recently got confirmed that Gunn is coming back with another DC movie! But now the question arises when will Suicide Squad 2 release. And is it a sequel to the first film? Let’s look into all of these queries.
The anti-hero squad is coming to screens in 2021! Gunn is not treating the film as a remake of Suicide Squad (2016) so we are assuming that the upcoming film will serve as a sequel. Majority of the old characters (and their actors) will return in Suicide Squad 2 but there are a few exciting additions too! Spoiler alert, they have never featured in any DC movie before.
Gunn was given full liberty in this project unlike the first film, hence we are confident that the upcoming film will be far more successful than its 2016 installment. Parental guidance for the movie is appreciated because Suicide Squad 2 has a lot of gory and sexual scenes.

Suicide Squad 2 Release Date
The film first got released in the UK on 30th July 2021 and in the US on 5th August 2021. It simultaneously premiered on HBO Max but Suicide Squad 2 will stay there only for a month. So, if you want to watch the film make sure you do before September!
James Gunn confirmed in a tweet that the upcoming installment will last for 2 hours and 12 minutes.
Cast
The official line-up for the main cast members came way back in 2019 but the new members list announced recently. As mentioned earlier you will get to see many familiar faces in Suicide Squad 2. The star stellar cast for the sequel includes the following actors and their characters:

There is a possibility for a few cameo appearances but we’ll find that out once the movie goes on air! King Shark will be voiced by the talented Sylvester Stallone and Taika Waititi will star as Cazo’s father, who was the first Ratcatcher! Unfortunately, Jared Leto’s Joker won’t be a part of the squad in Suicide Squad 2.
Plot
Thankfully we know a lot of details about the storyline for the sequel because the official plot synopsis revealed a long time ago. In case you haven’t read it yet, the following paragraph is for you!
“Welcome to Hell – a.k.a Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains stays and where they will do anything to get out – even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X.
“Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons… then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teaming with militant adversaries and guerilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave, and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement.
“And, as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them – all of them.”
This detailed analysis got our hopes high for Suicide Squad 2 and it better not disappoint! The most interesting part is that the actors already knew from the start of the filming process whether their character will die or live. As Gunn confirmed this himself, it means that some important hero/villain will die in the movie. Who? Guess you will have to watch the film to find out!
The gigantic fish creature, Starro, will play a major role in Suicide Squad 2. The unusual creature has big plans of taking over the world. But will he succeed? The answer lies in the 2 hours of the movie! The anti-hero squad will also have to face difficulties and it will be quite interesting to see the gang create chaos after so long!
The post-credits scene will also be there in the sequel! So, the upcoming movie will surely be a rollercoaster ride of emotions.
