Google Co-founder Sergey Brin Divorces After 3 Years

Sergey Brin, the co-founder of Google and the sixth richest man in the world, filed for divorce from Nicole Shanahan after only three years of marriage. He joins Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates as the third recent mega-billionaire couples to divorce.

According to court records, Brin filed a petition to end the marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences.” In addition, the couple has a 3-year-old kid. The pair has asked the court to keep the paperwork sealed and has chosen to keep the specifics of their divorce confidential.

Brin’s lawyer reportedly stated in a filing that the petitioner is a co-founder of Google and one of the world’s wealthiest and most well-known technology entrepreneurs, according to the website People. Given the public visibility of their relationship, there is likely to be a lot of public interest in their divorce and child custody disputes.

The potential that such notoriety poses to their minor child of harm, harassment, and even kidnapping if the facts of their daily whereabouts are made public is of great concern. After eight years of marriage, Brin, 48, and Anne Wojcicki, co-founder of 23andMe, divorced in 2015. Benji, their kid, is 13 years old, and Chloe is 11 years old.

In 1998, Larry Page and Brin co-founded Google, eventually leading to the holding corporation Alphabet Inc. He and Page departed the holding firm in 2019 although they continued to be the shareholders.

Brin and Shanahan most certainly have a prenuptial agreement because their relationship started long after he became a multibillionaire, according to Monica Mazzei, a partner at San Francisco’s Sideman & Bancroft LLP, as mentioned in People magazine.

She added that charities could also influence the divorce settlement. The announcement comes approximately three years after Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott’s divorce and a year after Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates’ split. The Gates marriage divided a $145 billion fortune, while Bezos had $137 billion at stake when they broke up.
