Crash on State Route 528 Kills Woman, Injures 7

The Florida Highway Patrol is looking into a crash on State Road 528 early on Monday that claimed one life and hospitalized seven others. The collision took place in Orange County shortly after 8 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the interstate, just to the west of the State Road 520 overpass.

According to police, a BMW was being driven by a 75-year-old Cocoa Beach woman who was in the inside eastbound lanes, directly in front of a Ford Transit van that was also moving eastward.

The FHP claims the driver of the BMW lost control, veered off the left side of the road, then overcorrected back to the right, directly into the path of the transit van. The vehicle spun off the left side of the road when the front of the BMW collided with the back of the van.

After making their rightward overcorrection, the van’s driver, according to crash investigators, crossed all lanes of eastbound traffic before slamming into a railing and spinning onto its right side on the road. The van’s solely female adult passenger was ejected from the car and was declared dead at the site.
