Bijou Phillips Files Divorce With Danny Masterson
Danny Masterson’s wife has filed for divorce less than two weeks after he was sentenced to 30 years to life in jail for r@pe.
According to court documents, Bijou Phillips, a model, and actor who was present in court during the “That ’70s Show” star’s sentencing on Monday, filed for divorce in Santa Barbara Superior Court.
They tied the knot in 2011, and now they’re parents to a kid who’s nine.
“Ms. Phillips has decided to file for divorce from her husband during this unfortunate time. Her priority remains with her daughter,” her attorney Peter A. Lauzon said in a statement. “This period has been unimaginably hard on the marriage and the family. … Ms. Phillips acknowledges that Mr. Masterson is a wonderful father to their daughter. She hopes that everyone will respect her family’s privacy in these difficult times.”
Phillips, 43, filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” and is requesting alimony and reimbursement of legal costs.
She has also filed paperwork to obtain Bijou Phillips as her legal name again.
Phillips wrote a statement to the judge who jailed her husband last month in which she described Masterson as “a life-saving partner to me.”
“We need him more than you can imagine,” Phillips wrote in the letter dated just last month. “I know he has been convicted of serious crimes. But the man I married has only been an extraordinary husband to me and a devoted father to our daughter.”
Masterson, now 47 years old, was found guilty of raping two women at his residence in Los Angeles 20 years ago in May. The jury deadlocked on charges involving a third female defendant.

During their 19 years of marriage, Phillips described Masterson as “a life-saving partner to me” in a character reference letter she wrote in his favor a month ago, prior to his sentencing.
“Danny is an amazing father. Our daughter and I are heartbroken that he is not home with us. It has been very difficult without him here,” she wrote. “We need him more than you can imagine. I know he has been convicted of serious crimes. But the man I married has only been an extraordinary husband to me and a devoted father to our daughter.”
This letter, dated August 14, was one of dozens written by Masterson’s loved ones to Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo pleading for compassion in his sentencing and published by The Hollywood Reporter.
