Wayne Rogers Cause of Death

Wayne Rogers, who portrayed Trapper John, one of the beloved army physicians on the long-running TV series M*A*S*H*, has passed away. He was 82.

On Thursday, Rogers’ publicist confirmed to the Associated Press that the actor had died in Los Angeles from pneumonia-related complications.

Rogers had a television career that lasted for almost 40 years. He was born in Alabama and attended Princeton University. The daytime soap opera Search for Tomorrow was where he got his start in the business back in 1959, and he went on to participate in other iconic shows including Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Cannon, Barnaby Jones, and The Big Valley.

In 1972, he landed the breakthrough part of Trapper John on the hit television show M.A.S.H., which was based on the 1970 Broadway play starring Donald Sutherland and Elliott Gould (in the title role of the original Trapper).

After three seasons of competing with Alan Alda’s Hawkeye Pierce for screen time, Rogers decided to leave the sitcom in 1975. “If I had known it would run that long,” Rogers allegedly said, “I probably would have kept my mouth shut and stayed put.”

Others may have assumed that Wayne’s departure from “M*A*S*H” was due to tensions with the rest of the ensemble, but the truth is that he was just weary of acting. His acting career ended once he departed, and he turned his attention to other pursuits, such as the stock market and other forms of investment.

Wayne Rogers After “M*A*S*H”

Wayne left acting behind after “M*A*S*H” and went on to become a money manager and investor. He even testified before the US House Committee on the Judiciary in 1933 about the Glass-Steagall Act of legislation, which separated commercial and investment banking. In August 2006, he was promoted to the position of board director at Vishay Intertechnology, Inc., and CEO at Wayne Rogers & Co.

Wayne’s Quiet Life: The Enigmatic Star

Wayne was never the type of guy to talk about his private life in public, thus he lived a life of relative obscurity.

When he was still a young man, he met Mitzi McWhorter on the set of a television series. Mitzi was also an actress, and the two fell in love at first sight. Mitzi gave birth to two children during their marriage, which began in 1960 and ended in 1983 for reasons that are unclear.

Wayne remarried in 1988 to Amy Hirsh, and by 2001 he and Amy had relocated to Destin, Florida. Amy had no difficulty with Wayne’s two children from a previous marriage, and the couple decided early on not to have children together.

Wayne never mentioned any of the other women he had dated.
