On her talk program, The Drew Barrymore Program, Drew Barrymore has a propensity for getting close to famous guests (she recently discussed nudity with Melanie Lynskey and Megan Dodds and perimenopause with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler). Therefore, it is no surprise that their discussion about their love life took a severe turn when speaking with Vanessa Hudgens.

The actress-turned-talk-show host on Monday’s program (recorded the week before the writer’s strike) congratulated the High School Musical alum on her recent engagement to MLB pitcher Cole Tucker by kneeling on the ground and giving her a bear hug. Hudgens exclaimed, “He so gets me,” about her fiancé but added that she feels a little “lost” in wedding planning.

“It’s tough. Finding a location is difficult. I want to elope, she confessed to Barrymore. I’m genuinely lost, I swear. What is Tucker’s opinion on the matter? Hudgens remarked, “I mean, he just wants to marry me. “Whatever you want, babe!” he says. Before Hudgens sent the athlete a DM in 2020, the soon-to-be newlyweds first connected during a Zoom meditation lesson (a story as old as COVID time).

After more than two years of dating, Tucker proposed in February of this year. Hudgens also put Barrymore on the spot at another point in the interview when she was questioned if she had ever slipped into someone’s inbox. Barrymore acknowledged, “So, I haven’t been slipping into DMs, but I did get back on my dating app.”

And I went on a few dates here and there, which felt like a lot of work and enjoyable. Not that the time spent was difficult, but just to, you know, interact with people outside of your house rather than staying inside. Nothing seems to be connecting, in my opinion. Hudgens reminded Barrymore that everything would work out in due time. You shouldn’t rush things, Hudgens admonished.
