For Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid,” Halle Bailey recalled working arduously to portray Princess Ariel, which included some days when she spent an incredible 13 hours filming in the ocean. About her many days spent submerged in water on set, Bailey said in a recent interview with Edition magazine, “I pushed myself as far as I’ve ever pushed myself in life.”
She said, “And I feel like the lesson from [Ariel] was to know that you’ve always had it in you,” saying that she could take courage from the spirit of the adored character to get through challenging times. According to Variety, the movie’s director Rob Marshall (“Chicago,” “Into the Woods”) used water tanks and special effects to shoot the underwater scenes.
Princess Ariel leaves her home beneath the sea to seek love with Prince Eric in the human world in the beloved 1989 animated picture, defying her father’s orders. Princess Ariel is dissatisfied with her existence under the sea and makes this decision despite his advice.

According to Bailey, the future movie takes a different, more powerful turn. She said, “We’ve shifted that perspective of merely her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy. I’m extremely eager for my interpretation of the film.” “It’s way bigger than that. It’s about herself, her purpose, her independence, her life, and what she wants.”
