We have been hooked to screens throughout their trek throughout the US because of a fungal illness that has wiped out most of humanity. (Too early?) After that finale, we might speculate about Joel and Ellie Ellie’stogether, but happily, we won’t.

What will happen to Ellie and Joel and the unlucky humans who have contracted the disease and been transformed into revolting fungi, and when can we expect to see new episodes of The Last of Us? Come out from behind the couch to learn everything there is to know about The Last of Us season two.
When will The Last of Us Season 2Arrive? Let’s check below.
The Last of Us season 2 potential release date: When will it air?
Although the won’t season has been confirmed, we won’t see it for a while. After performers were required to read scenes taken directly from the video game The Last of Us Part II, it was revealed in May 2023 that The Last of Us season two auditions had been paused indefinitely due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike.
The series’ writers, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have paused all production on the program by the restrictions of the strike. Hence the scripts for season two have not yet been finished. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, acknowledged that two’s completion would undoubtedly take a few years, even before this” hiccup. “I think we’ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next,” they said. Therefore, the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025 is likely. According to executive producer Craig Mazin (via The Washington Post), the show’s first season was filmed in Canada over about 200 days. Subsequent months were spent editing the front and adding those incredibly spooky fungus special effects.
From the first scene being filmed to the premiere of season one on January 15, 2023, it took 18 months. We can all agree that it will be worth it if the decision is between a mediocre fast cut and the exceptional quality of season one. We would undoubtedly wantWho’sprogram to end on a high note because HBO Drama Chief Francesca Orsi recently stated tshow’sere is no assurance the show would contigame’srough season two.
The Last of Us season 2 cast: Who’s in it?
T” is where things get complicated because a lot depends on how much of the show’s first season is dedicated to your first game’s story. Mawe’reffirmed this in an interview with wiDLC’snsequence: “The first season is the events of thRiley’s game. You can see from viewing the marketing materials, assuming you’ve played the game, that we’re also coveringEllie’sft Behind DLC’s events.
As is customary, this is how Ellie and Riley’s burgeoning romance plays out in an abandoned mall. Their terrible story was intertwined in the first season with Ellie’s quest to locate aid for an injured Joel. The Last of Us: Left Behind, a downloadable addition pack to the main game that concentrated on the two timeframes, featured both occurrences. We can assume that season two will begin with some of the events of the second game, The Last of Us Part II, as both the first game and the add-on has now been featured in season one.
Joel and Ellie are both in The Last of Us Part II game. Thus it stands to reason that Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will reprise their roles as them. There is a five-year gap between the game and its sequel; soal would have more grey hair. Meanwhile, Bella Ramsey would be acting younger than they did in season one. (Ellie is 14 in season one, while Bella is 19 in real life.)
The Last of Us season 2 plot: What will happen?
We can speculate on a few potential occurrences if we presume that the second season would include some of the scenes from the second game, The Last of Us Part II. Only continue reading if you don’t mind MAJOR SPOILERS for the game and possibly the entire series. After a brief introduction, the second game immediately picks up five years after The Last Of Us’ events, with Joel and Ellie, now 19 years old, living in Jackson, Wyoming.
Joel and his brother Tommy come to Abby on a routine patrol to protect her from a mob of infected people. The brothers are attacked when they go to an outpost structure that her organization—former Fireflies, now a militia group known as the WLF (Washington Liberation Front)—uses as a hideaway. Ellie and her partner Dina set out to see Tommy and Joel after a series of unspoilable incidents, and when they arrived, they discovered Abby had murdered Joel.
The plot then has Tommy, Ellie, and Dina travel to Seattle in search of Abby. The Seraphites, a religious sect fighting the WLF for control of the city, will come directly into their path due to their quest. Of course, much more occurs, but the critical point is that Joel doesn’t get far in the narrative. Therefore, Pedro Pascal might not get very far either.
Draw a deep breath. The program’s second season focuses mainly on Ellie, Dina, Abby, and possibly Tommy, with Joel only making cameos or flashback appearances later or in the season before he is killed off. We nevertheless hope not! The relationship between their father and daughter will end, but we aren’t even close to being ready to say goodbye to Joel.
Especially considering that it will soon be put to the ultimate test, or so we assume. Joel’s awful secret regarding the treatment and Marlene’s fate won’t last forever. And even if Joel merely did it out of love, Ellie will likely see it as a profound betrayal. The tension between the two will probably increase due to the lives lost to the Infected during the five-year time gap, adding even more misery to that sense of betrayal.
When they revealed information about the show’s alternate ending, the creators even hinted at the start of a change in their relationship. Ali Abbasi, the director of the episode, “had this idea of simply playing out this somewhat lengthier, sadder version where Ellie says, “Okay,” and then she turns and goes away. And Joel takes care of her,” Mazin claimed in a GQ interview.
The two of them can be seen walking. Together but not really, moving away from Jackson. It lingers before dissipating. There was a certain beauty to it. “In the end, there’s something particular about ending on that close-up of Ellie,” Mazin said in his closing statement. Unsure of what will happen next. Unaware of what she does. Does she follow him or walk away from him? How does she feel? That instant is put on hold indefinitely.
She was observing how their bond has developed over time and how the reality of Joel’s actions that day will influence events will be intriguing. That must be worth an entire second season, right? More-Joel’s team! Bella Ramsey recently shared her thoughts on season two’s exploration of Ellie and Dina’s romance and how this would affect Ellie’s friendship with Joel.
“I’ve seen a clip where someone has created an incredible — I have no idea how they do it — like a great edit of just the gameplay, like Ellie and Dina’s love story. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, they remarked, “So I’m excited to play that out. Bella said, “I’m looking forward to the complexity of her connection with Joel and how that grows progressively more complex. And strangely, the ensuing violence is exciting.
“It will be nice to explore it in a safe environment. However, I, too, feel anxious about it. Additionally, the writers have hinted at a new Ellie for the fans to anticipate in season two. In terms of her outfit, makeup, and hair, “We know what we’re going to do,” Mazin said to Variety. “But more significantly, we know the actor’s soul and energy.

Bella’s age, 19, is the same as Ellie’s in The Last of Us Part II, according to Mazin. It will be distinctive. It will be unique, just like this season was. “Occasionally, it will change drastically… It won’t be a carbon copy of the game. The program will be what Neil and I wish to produce. Ah, missteps in the game! This increases our optimism for Joel’s story arc’s endurance.
