Chris Redd, a comedian and former “Saturday Night Live” cast member, was reportedly assaulted in the face outside of a New York City comedy club on Wednesday night and taken to the hospital.
According to a statement provided to Nexstar by the New York Police Department, an assault outside of the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. The NYPD stated in direct answer to a question about rumours of an incident involving Redd, albeit they were unable to confirm the victims identify.
On Thursday, TMZ and Entertainment Weekly among other news sources confirmed that Redd was the victim.

Around 9:40 p.m. in Manhattan, the victim, 37, was getting out of a car when “an unknown man came and without prior talk or provocation hit the victim in the face before fleeing the site to places unknown,” according to police.
According to the complaint, he was sent to Bellevue Hospital for treatment of a facial laceration.

Redd looked to be receiving treatment for a facial injury before being taken to the hospital in a TMZ-shared video taken outside the Comedy Cellar. Nearby, there was blood on the ground as well.
Redd, who performed at the Comedy Cellar at 9:30 p.m., was due to appear on “SNL” from 2017 to 2022, according to his Twitter. On Thursday, he was also supposed to perform, according to his official website. Requests for additional updates were not immediately answered by a representative of Redd’s talent agency.
