For the past six years, as Rihanna concentrated on her apparel and beauty businesses and became a mother, she has mostly been present in our makeup bags, underwear drawers, and Instagram feeds. With the release of “Lift Me,” her first new song since her 2016 album “Anti,” she is again in our ears.
In honour of the late “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman, the song—which serves as the album’s lead single—was co-written by the lousy girl with Tems, the film’s director Ryan Coogler, and Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson.

Lift me, Hold me down, Keep me close, Safe and sound, Rihanna sings in the song’s simple chorus, surrounded by soft strings that highlight her voice. Before eager ears could listen to the more than 3-minute music, Rihanna teased the new tune with a 14-second clip of her humming the opening notes.
Co-writer Tems stated that Rihanna’s voice “has been an inspiration” to her and that she wanted “Lift Me” to feel like a “warm embrace” from all of the loved ones she has lost. In a news release issued on Wednesday, Tems stated, “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them.”
November 4, one week before the film’s November 11 release, will see the release of the complete “Black Panther” soundtrack. On the red carpet for the movie’s world premiere on Wednesday night, Rihanna, 34, and her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, enjoyed a date without their infant. The “Fashion Killa” pair strolled down the press line while wearing matching Rick Owens attire.
As the host of the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, the singer is slated to perform on an even bigger stage in February. Since she announced it in September, very little information about her performance has come to light.

In a press release praising the halftime show selection, Jay-Z, who founded the Roc Nation record label and has an entertainment deal with the NFL, praised Rihanna as “a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has exceeded expectations at every turn.”
The rapper continued, “A person from the tiny island of Barbados who rose to become one of the most famous musicians ever. Self-made in both entertainment and business. After making the world aware of her pregnancy in January, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child in May.
Before the birth of their child, Rihanna appeared on the cover of the May issue of Vogue and opened up about her relationship with Rocky. In the cover story published on April 12, she claimed, “People don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me.” And it took me a while to get over how well we know each other because we are both aware of the trouble we can get into for the other.
