Early Life

Monica Samille Lewinsky was born in San Francisco, California on July 23, 1973. She had a wonderful upbringing in a Jewish family in Los Angeles with her mother Marcia (an author), father Bernard (an oncologist), and brother Michael.

Monica’s parents divorced and remarried in 1987, after what was likely a very contentious separation. Lewinsky graduated from Bel Air Prep, Beverly Hills High, and the John Thomas Dye School in 1991. She also attended Sinai Temple’s Sinai Akiba Academy.

Next, she attended Santa Monica College, where she worked in the Beverly Hills High School drama department, before transferring to Lewis & Clark College in Portland, where she graduated with a degree in psychology in 1995.

After working as an unpaid intern in Chief of Staff Leon Panetta’s office at the White House beginning in July 1995, Monica was offered a paid position in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs in December 1995.

After working for ten years, she decided to return to school to earn her master’s degree in social psychology from London School of Economics.

Profession

In 1995, Lewinsky relocated to Washington, DC, where she was hired by the ‘White House Office. Once upon a time, she served in the employ of the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States.

She moved to Arlington, home of “The Pentagon,” the following year. After some time passed, she was featured on the news programme 20/20 for an interview. Seventy million Americans tuned in to watch Barbara Walters host the show.

In 1999, Lewinsky launched The Real Monica, Inc., a handbag line that was a hit in the Golden State, the Big Apple, and the United Kingdom. After negotiating with ‘Jenny Craig,’ she signed a $1 million endorsement contract.

In 2000, she made an appearance on an episode of “The Tom Green Show.” She and the host of the show were depicted as taking a trip back to her hometown. Since then, she has used TED Talks and other online forums to raise awareness of the issue of cyberbullying.

Presidential Scandal

Lewinsky claims she and Clinton had nine sexual encounters without intercourse between November 1995 and March 1997. In April 1996, Monica was transferred to the Pentagon after her superiors expressed concern that she was spending too much time in the Oval Office.

She told her coworker Linda Tripp about her affair with the president, and in September 1997, Tripp began secretly taping her conversations with Lewinsky over the phone.

Monica remained at the Pentagon until December 1997, and in an affidavit submitted in the Paula Jones case the following month, she denied having a romantic relationship with Clinton.

She tried to persuade Linda to lie under oath, but Tripp turned over her recordings to independent counsel Kenneth Starr, who was looking into the Clintons’ Whitewater business dealings, during Clinton’s presidency.

Tripp convinced Lewinsky to keep any gifts she received from Clinton and discouraged her from dry cleaning a blue dress that contained evidence of a sexual encounter.

The president denied having sexual relations with Monica under oath and in a press conference in January 1998, but after Starr obtained the blue dress, Clinton recanted and admitted to having “a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate.”

Lewinsky and Clinton testified in front of a grand jury, and Monica was given transactional immunity by the Office of the Independent Counsel.

During their relationship, which lasted from November 1995 to March 1997, Bill Clinton and Lewinsky had nine sexual encounters, but they never had an intimate encounter. Afraid that she would spend too much time with the president, her superiors transferred her to the Pentagon in 1996.

After Lewinsky told her coworker Linda Tripp about her affair with the president, Tripp began taping their conversations. In the end, that was the beginning of the end for Lewinsky, whose reputation was smeared all over the world thanks to the Internet.

In 1999, she gave an interview with Barbara Walters on “20/20” for $1 million; the interview was seen by more than 70 million people, making it the second-most-watched TV interview of all time (after Oprah’s with Michael Jackson).
