A missing Ohio State University graduate student was discovered deceased in a remote quarry last week, according to officials and her family. The body of 25-year-old Amina Alhaj-Omar was discovered on Wednesday (12 July).
Her family added that the remains were discovered in a quarry behind the BP petrol station where she was last seen. According to the Columbus police, the remains were discovered in a “remote area.” It is currently unclear how she dἰed.
Alhaj-Omar’s family stated in an obituary –
“We are devastated by our immense loss, but we also thank God every single day for blessing us with the privilege of knowing and loving her beautiful soul for the last twenty-five years.”
Her family stated in her obituary that the Ohio State student went missing on June 10. While her initial disappearance prompted a frenetic search, it was called off 19 days later after all leads had been exhausted.
Police had said –
“While the investigation is still ongoing, the active search for Miss Omar has concluded.”
The Columbus Dispatch reported that Alhaj-Omar earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Ohio State before beginning her graduate studies in social work. Relatives told the newspaper that authorities believed she may have entered the quarry pond.

Last month, her sister reported that her jacket, shoes, and mobile phone were all discovered on the property. According to her family, she “worked hard to pursue her admirable dream of fighting for people.”
Her obituary states –
“Most people who truly knew Amina immediately remember her laugh — it was contagious and brought happiness to everyone in the room.”
“She had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcomed in any situation. Her personality was simply beautiful — a bubbly, shy, caring, funny, and loving human being inside and out.”
