Moviegoers frequently use reviews to determine whether a movie is worth seeing. Today, most of us use this strategy to decide what to watch next. Online reviews and rankings are a terrific and effective way to learn about a movie without necessarily running into spoilers. Often, this critical evaluation serves as a solid yardstick, but occasionally, it is preferable to follow one’s heart rather than one’s brain.

The Meg, a 2018 creature film directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure), is an example. It stands out as an example of a movie where the public disagrees because despite being despised mainly by critics, it gained a sizable following right after its premiere.

With many eagerly anticipating the release of a sequel, it has established itself as one of the finest examples in the rapidly expanding subgenre of sharksploitation films. Since star Jason Statham (Snatch) first previewed this second instalment in 2018, specific facts about the sequel have been tightly under wraps. Nevertheless, some unique nuggets have quietly trickled out of the production faucet.

Therefore, Apelles Entertainment and its fellow contributors appear to be finally caving in and releasing the information we’ve all been waiting to hear as the planned release date draws nearer. Fans of the first movie are desperate to hear more. Here is what we currently know about Meg 2: The Trench in light of that.

When will Meg 2 the Trench Arrive? Let’s check below

When and Where Is Meg 2: The Trench Releasing?

The Meg 2, still in post-production, intends to debut on August 4, 2023. Diehard fans will be hoping for the date to remain as it is. Still, of course, like with many other movies, this might easily alter, especially considering that the original film had a delayed release. Unsurprisingly, the sequel to The Meg would follow in the footsteps of the first film, which debuted in theatres in 2018. Meg 2’s production team will aim for a similar result with ticket sales after the first film’s Box Office success.

What’s the story in Meg 2: The Trench?

Be prepared for a potentially more enormous shark than the first time, or perhaps even a much more destructive monster entirely, like the Kronosaurus that appears in the sequel novel on which the film is based (The Trench by Steve Alten). This is because sequels to films of this genre are almost always an attempt to get bigger and better. Of course, the movie isn’t only about sharks; the first one did a terrific job of fleshing out the character of Jonas Taylor, played by Jason Statham.

Because Jonas came dangerously close to giving his life after first the film’s conclusion, and because of the consequences this had on his family and friends, we may expect to see more of this in The Meg 2. Fans of the first film have much to be excited about because there will undoubtedly be more underwater action and adventure. The movie’s producer, Lorenzo di Bonaventura, gave Steve Weintraub of Collider a peek at what viewers may anticipate from the sequel.

Who Is in Meg 2: The Trench’s Cast?

It makes sense that the ensemble of characters became beloved by the audience of the first film, and they will be missed in the sequel. Li Bingbing (Transformers: Age of Extinction), who was a particular favourite in the original as Suyin, won’t be returning for undisclosed reasons, even though we do know of several returning characters, most notably Jason Statham’s Jonas Taylor.

Fans shouldn’t be too discouraged, though, as the cast continues to imply that there is much fun to be had. Along with Statham, other actors who should soon be confirmed to return include Page Kennedy from Rush Hour as DJ, Shuya Sophia Cai as Meiying, Suyin’s daughter, and Cliff Curtis from Sunshine as Mac.

The Meg 2 has done this as well, bringing in actors like Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Rambo: Last Blood), Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil), and Skyler Samuels (American Horror Story). Of course, every excellent sequel expands upon its original cast. Wu Jing (Wolf Warrior), a Chinese martial artist and action hero, is another intriguing addition. He will play an unnamed character. Most of these new cast’s roles are still unknown, which only heightens the movie’s pronounced aura of mystery.

Who is  Making Meg 2: The Trench?

The most significant departure from the original picture is at the helm, where British filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Sightseers) takes over for Jon Turteltaub. Wheatley has a wealth of expertise behind the camera, which should be used excellently in this sequel. The previous movie’s screenwriters, Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris, also wrote the sequel’s script.

Executive producers are Randy Greenberg and Catherine Xujun Ying, along with producers Belle Avery and Lorenzo di Bonaventura, associate producers Kenneth Atchity and Chi-Li Wong, co-producer Cliff Lanning, and line producer Atchariya Pinitsanpirom. Jonathan Amos edited the film, and Haris Zambarloukos handled the photography.

Meg 2: The Trench was released when and where?

Well, not the Mariana Trench’s bottom. Thanks to Statham’s updates, we know that The Meg 2 began filming in the UK in January 2022 before travelling elsewhere. We also see the movie was partially filmed in Thailand and Hong Kong. The movie is now in post-production after wrapping up production.

What Scoring Scale Will Meg 2: The Trench Use?

Although some people might have hoped that the follow-up to The Meg would decide to up the gore and brutality and seek an R-rated, the movie will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor with a PG-13 rating. The rating for the film was “action/violence, some bloody images, language, and brief suggestive material.”

It’s crucial to remember that Jaws, arguably the best shark movie ever created, only has a PG rating. The Shallows and the 47 Meters Down films, as well as more contemporary shark pictures, are both PG-13, demonstrating that you don’t need an R-rating to make a successful deadly shark movie.

Do you know if Meg 2: The Trench has a trailer?

On May 8, 2023, we saw the first Meg 2: The Trench trailer. Killer sharks and underwater exploration are featured in the roughly three-minute-long clip. We eagerly anticipate what Meg 2: The Trench will serve up now that the beast is back for more. View the trailer down below.
