Knives Out Glass Onion Ending Explained: Written and directed by Rian Johnson, with production assistance from Ram Bergman, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a 2022 American mystery film. It’s the follow-up to 2019’s Knives Out, and Daniel Craig is back as master detective Benoit Blanc, this time investigating the murder of a tech billionaire and his close friends. Many well-known actors and actresses, such as Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista, are featured in the ensemble cast.
Before the premiere of the first picture, Johnson pondered expanding the Benoit Blanc franchise. In 2020, the film’s original distributor, Lionsgate, gave the go-ahead for a sequel, but in March 2021, Netflix paid $469 million for the rights to two Knives Out sequels. There was a May signing of the cast. Production began in June and July 2021 on the Greek island of Spetses and continued in Belgrade through September. After making its debut at the TIFF on September 10, 2022, Netflix’s Glass Onion received the broadest theatrical release to date for a Netflix picture on November 23, 2022, grossing $15 million on a $40 million budget before becoming available to stream on Netflix on December 23, 2022.

Knives Out Glass Onion Storyline
In May 2020, millionaire Alpha co-founder Miles Bron hosts a murder mystery game at his Greek island estate, the Glass Onion, during the COVID-19 pandemic. He invites five friends: Alpha chief scientist Lionel Toussaint, Connecticut governor Claire Debella, controversial fashion designer Birdie Jay, men’s rights activist Duke Cody, and Alpha co-founder and ousted CEO Cassandra “Andi” Brand. Birdie’s helper Peg, Duke’s lover Whiskey, and famous detective Benoit Blanc are invited.
Miles permits Blanc to stay, thinking another visitor invited him as a joke. Blanc hears Peg confront Miles about a PR statement he wants Birdie to release and sees Duke observe Whiskey flirt with Miles. Before dinner, Miles displays the Mona Lisa on loan from the Louvre and discloses that the Glass Onion is powered by “Klear,” a hydrogen-based alternative fuel that Alpha will deploy in a week despite Lionel and Claire’s safety worries.
Blanc solves Miles’s pretend murder case immediately, and Andi leaves the main party area due to tensions. Duke collapses and dies after drinking from Miles’s glass. The panicked group accuses Andi. After Duke’s pistol goes missing, the power goes out, and everyone scatters. Blanc discovers Andi, but an unseen intruder shoots her. Blanc tells everyone he solved Andi’s murder.
Andi died a week before the trip, apparently by suicide, and Helen hired Blanc to investigate. At Alpha, Andi had suspended Klear’s development owing to safety concerns, so Miles removed her as CEO. Their pals perjured themselves by testifying that he had single-handedly sketched the Alpha design on a napkin years earlier. Andi found the napkin where she wrote the concept and emailed the group a photo. Helen thinks the group killed Andi to escape shame and secure Miles’ favor. Blanc suggests Helen masquerade as Andi at Miles’s party to assist him in investigating before Andi’s death is announced.
Helen helps Blanc learn that Lionel and Claire have bet their reputations on Klear, Miles is financially saving Birdie from child labor, and Duke is using Whiskey to entice Miles for a post at Alpha News. Helen also learns that all four guests visited Andi’s residence on her death day. Helen interrupts the party to search guest rooms for Andi’s napkin. Andi’s journal in her jacket pocket blocks the bullet, but Blanc tells the other guests she was killed, allowing her to finish the search in Miles’s office.
Blanc says Miles killed both. Duke observed Miles’s automobile leave Andi’s house after Miles killed her. Duke recognized Miles was responsible for Andi’s death when it was posted online at the party and tried to blackmail him into going on Alpha News. Miles poisoned him using his pineapple allergy and stole Duke’s weapon to shoot Helen.
Helen finds Andi’s napkin in Miles’s office, revealing her identity and survival to the group. Miles burns the napkin, erasing the evidence against him. Helen lights a bonfire and throws a Klear sample into it, causing an explosion that destroys the Glass Onion and the Mona Lisa. The group agrees to testify against Klear because routing the painting will expose him and ruin Miles. Helen and Blanc wait on the beach, watching the police arrive.

Knives Out Glass Onion Ending Explained: For a fun weekend, a pals meet on a remote Greek island in a plot that could have been plucked straight from an Agatha Christie novel. Their accommodations are at a mansion with a glass dome on top, affectionately known as the Glass Onion. Billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), who is in the same league as Elon Musk, has reunited the gang. Miles’s phony murder plot is thwarted when Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) manages to talk his way into the party.
But then it seems like the absolute killing starts. Dave Bautista’s Duke (inevitably) swallows Miles’ goblet of poison and promptly croaks. And it looks like Miles’s ex-business partner Andi (Janelle Monae) was shot. She is unharmed (apart from a gunshot lodged in a diary she was holding). But the plot thickens when we learn Andi committed suicide before the island trip. Helen, Andi’s twin sister, hid her death and went on the journey to Andi’s place to try to find the killer. Blanc is brought on her behalf by the money she receives.
It came out that everybody had an excuse for murdering Andi. Andi devised a business plan for her and Miles’s IT company, Alpha, on a notepad at their favorite bar. Since Miles was financially supporting them, he stole the napkin sketch and claimed it as his own, and they all lied in court to back him up. However, Andi eventually located her original napkin doodle, which, unlike the replica, still bore the Glass Onion’s emblem. She naively told everyone about her discovery, and now they all have the motive to kill her: they all lied in court against her.
Ultimately, Miles is revealed to be the murderer, having murdered his ex-partner and attempting to frame the death as a suicide. Duke subsequently explained to Miles that he had been informed of the murder, which is why Miles killed him by poisoning his drink with pineapple juice, which he is highly allergic to. (It seems that allergic reactions to pineapples are truly fatal.)
Miles manages to burn the crucial napkin, causing “Andi” (really Helen) to destroy all of Miles’ glass statues and the other guests, who secretly despise and resent Miles, to participate in the damage. Miles is pushing Alpha’s new, potentially lethal hydrogen fuel, Klear, despite his knowledge of the product’s dangers. This is the final straw that drove Andi away from the organization. Blanc hands Helen, who is out for vengeance, a piece of Klear, which she uses to detonate a bomb and destroy the Glass Onion.
That wouldn’t be such a massive issue if Miles didn’t rent the Mona Lisa from the Louvre in Paris, saying that the museum was closed because of COVID-19 and that “France needed money” (yeah, he is that rich). The museum ordered the painting be protected by bulletproof glass, but Miles bypassed the safety measures, justifying his action by claiming he must see the expression in the painting’s eyes. Helen presses the emergency button, and we watch a masterpiece dissolve.
In the end, the island is surrounded by police boats while the other guests swear to turn on Miles, who has been revealed as a double killer and the guy responsible for destroying the Mona Lisa. Miles, who hoped to live on in perpetuity beside the Mona Lisa, is devastated by the painting’s loss. …and now he is. In the meantime, filmmaker Johnson has said that Helen, the lady who destroyed the Mona Lisa, represents the Mona Lisa in that she brought justice to her sister’s murder.
