Officials in Florida report the deἀth of a 7-year-old child who was kἰlled by his 3-year-old brother’s golf cart. Monday afternoon, a 3-year-old began approaching a curve near a home in Fort Myers, Florida and struck his 7-year-old sibling who was standing in the front yard.
The accἰdent rendered the 7-year-old boy “critically injured,” necessitating his transport to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. CNN reports that the 3-year-old was not injured in the incident.
Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Greg Bueno said –
“The exact whereabouts of the 7-year-old is still very much under investigation. Was he initially in the cart? Was he a pedestrian the entire time? We’re still determining that ourselves.”
Do you know that Elise Finch, a popular American meteorologist, dἰed suddenly this week, shocking CBS-New York and its viewers? Beginning in 2007, Finch presented the weather segment on Channel 2 of CBS-New York for sixteen years:
In his interview, the lieutenant added that the case is still under investigation, including the question of whether the boys were under adult supervision at the time of the incident.
He said –
“I have a pretty good understanding of what was going on, but we’re not to the point of releasing anything at this point.”
Bueno discussed the investigation saying –
“As parents or adults, we want to make sure that any time there is access to any form of a motor vehicle such as a golf cart, an ATV, that we have extreme parental oversight. What our goal is now is how did this tragedy occur? What led up to it and obviously what lessons are learned here that we can share with the community.”
The incident occurred a few months after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 949, which prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from operating a golf cart on certain roadways without a legitimate learner’s permit or valid driver’s license. The new law goes into effect on Oct. 1.
