He is Italian and Irish. His father was a police officer in Newark, his parents divorced when he was five and Joe has spoken to his father since he was seven. As a host, he discusses current events, comedy, politics, science, philosophy, and hobbies with a different guest in a podcast named The Joe Rogan Experience.
