The representative continued, “Irene’s family has requested privacy while they mourn their bereavement. She was a stunningly talented person whose films and songs will live on forever. Cara’s cause of death is not yet determined, but it will be disclosed as soon as it is, according to her agent.

Funeral arrangements are still being made, and she said that a memorial gathering for Cara’s supporters will be organized in the future. Cara first gained notoriety when she was chosen to play Coco Hernandez in the musical Fame from 1980, for which she also performed the show’s title song.

At the 23rd annual Grammy Awards in 1981, her performance in Fame led to two Grammy nominations for her: best new artist and best pop vocal performance, female. Later, Cara collaborated with Giorgio Moroder and Keith Forsey to co-write “Flashdance… What A Feeling” for the soundtrack of the 1983 hit film Flashdance.

The hit single “Flashdance… What A Feeling” earned the celebrity two victories at the 26th Annual Grammy Awards in 1984: best pop vocal performance, female, and best album of original score written for a motion picture or a television special. It also won the star an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 1983 Oscars.

Cara’s representative stated in a subsequent statement that she and the celebrity’s business manager received word of Cara’s passing late on Friday night. I wish that weren’t true, she wrote, “believe me on that.” She clarified that they are currently “working on incredible initiatives that would have delighted her and her followers greatly. I’ll complete them along with her manager. She would favor that.”
