Emergency Evacuation Order Lifted After Benkelman, Nebraska Wildfire

The Dundy County Sheriff’s Office said, “Today early in the morning, the town of Benkelman in southwestern Nebraska was shifted due to the large wildfire to the northwest”.

When the visibility was reported to be near zero in spots near Benkelman, the Emergency Management team set up a temporary emergency shifting of residents at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Stratton on concise notice. However, at 7:15 a.m MST (8:15 a.m. CST), the emergency management team has declared that the situation is now under control. Residents who were located to 50 miles north of Goodland can return to Benkelman.

On Thursday night near Guide Rock in Nuckolls County, nearly 15 fire departments and four law enforcement agencies controlled the fire. A dozen residences were safely taken away to other places during the process, the Nuckolls County Sheriff’s Department said in a social media post.
