Chainsaw Man Anime Has Release in 2022, Mappa Confirmed

According to MAPPA, the anime adaptation of the hit manga Chainsaw Man will release in 2022, with the latest sources predicting an October launch. There are millions of manga series accessible to read online worldwide, but there aren’t many that are pretty like Chainsaw Man.

With a substantially darker topic than many other conventional series, combining ruthless violence and a cast of outstanding characters, the manga has been a fan-favourite over recent years.

However, the franchise recently got a massive update; MAPPA confirmed that the Chainsaw Man anime adaptation would appear in 2022!

Chainsaw Man Anime Adaptation Announcement

According to The Unofficial Shonen Jump News Twitter page’s tweets, in December 2020, there will be a “TV anime adaptation” of Chainsaw Man.

Many fans anticipated an anime adaptation to be unveiled following the finish of the manga that weekend after author Tatsuki Fujimoto hinted that an “important announcement” would be made.

It was formally reported on December 13th that the epic manga would be turned into a horror television series. Along with the news came the first look advertising image for the new series, which can be seen below.

“Shueisha’s “Weekly Shonen Jump” serialization #チェンソーマン will be animated! Production is handled by #MAPPA ( @MAPPA_Info ). The teaser visual has also arrived! Please look forward to it.” – Chainsaw Man PR Twitter.

MAPPA, a Japanese animation company, will make an anime version of Chainsaw Man.

It has been a fantastic few years for MAPPA, which has produced such notable works as The God of High School, Dorohedoro, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Attack on Titan’s last season.

Fans are naturally thrilled that MAPPA will be directing the Chainsaw Man anime, given how graphically fantastic these series have been.

Chainsaw Man Anime Has Release in 2022, Mappa Confirmed

MAPPA has yet to announce a debut date for the Chainsaw Man anime in 2022. However, with the Spring slate being barely around the corner and most of the Summer anime series already unveiled, our money is on an October launch as part of the Fall slate.

Interestingly, this has previously been speculated on social media, with fans worldwide also theorising that an October 2022 release was the most plausible timeline.

This week, there are more rumours about the anime adaptation on the internet. This is what James Hanson, an anime YouTuber, said recently. The series will run for two hours and will premiere in the fall.

In this tweet, there will be around 24 episodes made, which will run from October 2022 to March 2023 if both broadcasts are on simultaneously.

When Chainsaw Man finally makes its big-screen debut, fans can anticipate it to be part of your Sunday anime lineup. Sundays are quickly becoming the most popular day for anime to show in Japan; recent examples include Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Demon Slayer.

Chainsaw Man season 1 episode 1 is expected to broadcast on either Sunday, October 2nd or Monday, October 9th — however, this has not been formally verified at the time of this post.

Update From Mappa’s Official Youtube Account

The MAPPA YouTube account and the Chainsaw Man PR Twitter feed published a new PV teaser as part of the Jump Festa presentation – see below.

“In 2022, the bloody circular saw devil finally begins to move! ] #チェンソーマン Project PV lifted! At the end, Makima is also …! !!” – Chainsaw Man PR, via Twitter.

As of March 2022, 11 volumes of the manga series have been released in Japan, removing the need for the production team to wait for source material to become accessible.

Similarly, MAPPA is one of the largest studios operating in today’s anime business. The crew can devote enormous resources to the animation, undoubtedly the most time-consuming aspect of any series.

CG Vs 2D Animation Debate

Unfortunately, fans have started to grow apprehensive due to a recent ‘leak’ from Twitter user ‘rcco r0nd0’ that described how the CG animation would operate in the CSM anime.

According to ‘rcco r0nd0‘, the production will be 50 cent Computed Generated animation and 50 per cent of 2D art; but will be utilised to accentuate backdrops rather than people or action.

“Unlike for example SNK, the CG is being used very intelligently. Let’s say that in terms of animation it is Arcane inverted. You prioritize traditional animation without downplaying the importance of the CG.” – User ‘rcco_r0nd0’, via Twitter.

Unfortunately, the ‘leak’ also stated that this implies the aesthetic direction from MAPPA would considerably influence the development schedule.

“It will be a long-lasting production as well as the duration of the anime. The release date will be according to important moments of the source material.” – User ‘rcco_r0nd0’, via Twitter.
